Iraq: Yet another Land Rover patrol death

times: A British soldier was killed by a roadside bomb in the second attack in as many days on British troops in Iraq.

The ambush happened during a weekend on which at least 45 people died in a series of car bombings and shootings, while the country's leaders remained deadlocked in talks to choose a Prime Minister.

Lieutenant Richard Palmer, of the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards, was killed on Saturday, the Ministry of Defence said. He was on patrol with Iraqi troops on the main road 30km (19 miles) north of Basra when his Land Rover was hit by a homemade bomb. He and three British comrades were flown to a logistics base at Shaiba, but Lt Palmer died from his wounds. He was the 104th British servicemen to die since the conflict started three years ago.
