They just got a different tool to use than we do: They kill innocent lives to achieve objectives. That's what they do. And they're good. They get on the TV screens and they get people to ask questions about, well, you know, this, that or the other. I mean, they're able to kind of say to people: Don't come and bother us, because we will kill you. Bush - Joint News Conference with Blair - 28 July '06

Millions of Muslims cast as "Islamic Fascists"

"9/11 in the US, 7/7 in the UK, 11/3 in Madrid, the countless terrorist attacks in countries as disparate as Indonesia or Algeria, what is now happening in Afghanistan and in Indonesia, the continuing conflict in Lebanon and Palestine, it is all part of the same thing." Blair - World Affairs Council in Los Angeles

I caught an interview on BBC Newsnight last night. Kirsty Wark was interviewing Christopher Shays - a Republican member of the House of Representatives and chairman of U.S. House Subcommittee on National Security, Emerging Threats and International Relations [nice title] - about the alleged plot to blow up planes flying out of Heathrow. She put it to Shays that Bush's remark that 'we' are engaged in a war with 'Islamic Fascists' was not helpful - Shayes asked why we should worry about that and went on to say "Whether they're Hezbullah, Hamas, Jihad, the Brotherhood, or al Qaeda they are all one and the same and there is a clear recognition on the part of some of our people here that's who we're fighting" Kirsty unfortunately let him off the hook and went on to discuss the 'vital' roll of Pakistani intelligence.

If the Muslim Brotherhood are 'the enemy' it means so too are millions of their supporters - in Egypt the Brotherhood is the biggest opposition block to the corrupt, undemocratic Mubarak government. If Hamas are the enemy - the democratically elected Hamas - it means so too are the mass of Palestinians. And if Hezbullah are the enemy then it means 80%-95% of Lebanese have also been cast as supporters of "Islamic Fascists". This is all very wrong - and if the narrative is allowed to take root it pushes us further into a war on 'Islam' - not a war on 'terror'.

Unless the lie is exposed quickly and firmly before it is allowed to take root in the public's consciousness through repetition ["In my line of work you gotta keep repeating things over and over and over again for the truth to sink in, to kinda catapult the propaganda." - Bush, May 24, 2005] the only beneficiaries are going to be Israel - in its criminal adventures in Palestine and Lebanon - and Bush/Blair in their continuing march towards war with Iran and Syria.
