At least 16 people were killed, including four children, in an Israeli ground operation backed by aircraft on southern Gaza since early Thursday, medics said on Saturday.
On Saturday morning, an Israeli aircraft fired a missile at a group of Palestinians militants in eastern Rafah town in the south of the Strip, killing one militant and wounding two others, one critically, medics said.
Earlier, two children and a militant were killed in two separate Israeli airstrikes on the town, according to the same sources.
At least one of the militants was a member of the Islamic Jihad.
Eyewitnesses also said that a mother and two children in Rafah were critically wounded in an Israeli missile attack.
The Israeli army launched a large-scale ground operation backed by fighter planes on Shawka neighbourhood in eastern Rafah in the early hours of Thursday, with airstrikes targeting militants who tried to block the advance of Israeli army vehicles into the area. Read more
