They just got a different tool to use than we do: They kill innocent lives to achieve objectives. That's what they do. And they're good. They get on the TV screens and they get people to ask questions about, well, you know, this, that or the other. I mean, they're able to kind of say to people: Don't come and bother us, because we will kill you. Bush - Joint News Conference with Blair - 28 July '06

Draft UN resolution text - don't expect a ceasefire

Here is a .JPG of the draft UN resolution from Tayyar.org

John Bolton has already stated that the resolution does not include a requirement for the immediate cessation of hostilities. It does however call for the immediate cessation by Hizbollah of all attacks and the cessation by Israel 'of all offensive military operations' - thus providing Israel with enough wriggle room for the killing and bombing to go on indefinitely - given that they continue to maintain that the whole operation is defensive.

Hizbollah have stated that they will not stop fighting whilst Israeli troops are still on Lebanese soil [which is 'defensive' but not a position allowed in the draft resolution].

Israel have stated that they will consider the draft resolution during the next 'days or weeks'.

As you might have guessed, our neocon prime minister seems pleased with the text.

[You should have seen all the little shoes laying in the road at Downing Street, London today - they were brought by demonstrators protesting against the war - or to be more precise the US and Israel and specifically our dear PM's continued opposition to an immediate ceasefire. The cops stood beyond the barricades to protect Downing Street from harm surrounded by these little shoes - some of which flew through the air and rained down on their heads. The shoes were in memory of the hundreds of dead Lebanese children.]
