They just got a different tool to use than we do: They kill innocent lives to achieve objectives. That's what they do. And they're good. They get on the TV screens and they get people to ask questions about, well, you know, this, that or the other. I mean, they're able to kind of say to people: Don't come and bother us, because we will kill you. Bush - Joint News Conference with Blair - 28 July '06

Afghanistan: The three year mission that isn't

HANSARD - 3/7/06

British Forces (Afghanistan)
Column 518

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Defence (Mr. Tom Watson):

... I must stress, however, that we are only at the start of our three-year operation. Our forces in Helmand only reached their full operating capability this weekend, and there is still much to do.

Guardian 16/6/06

The MoD describes Britain's exit strategy as "to build the capacity of the Afghan government and national security forces to enable them to maintain security in Helmand without international support".

It adds: "We have made clear that we do not expect to achieve all the UK's objectives for Helmand within the three-year deployment announced on January 26."
