Karzai 'demands' answers from US ...

Here we go again - Karzai gets tough - just like the last time the U.S. slaughtered a bunch of civilians who happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time [their homes]...

timesonline: President Karzai of Afghanistan is to summon the commander of US forces in the country to explain the large number of civilian deaths in a coalition air and ground attack on a Taleban stronghold near Kandahar in the south.

Afghan officials say 16 civilians, including women and children, were killed in the raid on a village in Panjwayi district that began on Sunday night, but villagers say the real toll was much higher.

A statement from the President's office said that Mr Karzai, who was in the United Arab Emirates today, would be summoning Lieutenant General Karl Eikenberry to explain the circumstances of the raid. Read more

db: Karzai carries little weight with the Americans when it comes to the rights and wrongs of bombing civilians - only last Septemeber he called into question the usefullness of airstrikes - and was ignored.
