France says winning argument over Lebanon peace
France said on Thursday it was winning the argument for its three-stage plan to halt the conflict in Lebanon, and again ruled out sending troops until a political deal was struck between the warring parties.
Foreign Minister Philippe Douste-Blazy said EU foreign ministers had effectively backed France's demand for an immediate ceasefire and political accord between Israel and Lebanon before any international force is deployed.
Israel does not want to end its offensive before the force starts arriving, but France wants a ceasefire and political agreement before troops move in. Read more
