Bomb hits Iraqi city of Basra - police sources

reuters: A bomb exploded in the southern Iraqi city of Basra on Saturday, police sources said, three days after Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki declared a state of emergency to restore stability in the key oil hub.

There were no immediate reports on casualty figures. Maliki on Wednesday ordered the army onto the streets of Iraq's second city as part of an "iron fist" crackdown against criminal gangs and feuding Shi'ite factions threatening crucial oil exports. Link
