Resistance suspends talks with U.S. troops
Sources, speaking to the newspaper from Damascus, said the armed groups suspended their talks when U.S. negotiators rejected drawing a timeline for the withdrawal of their troops.
The sources said the talks did not involve all anti-U.S. factions, but were set to expand had they succeeded.
They said the U.S. insisted the groups disarm in return for "integration in the political process."
Resistance groups have refused to talk to the government or allow its delegates attend their talks with the U.S.
The sources said Iraqi resistance groups are ready to halt operations if the U.S. agrees to their conditions, which include:
A timetable for withdrawal of foreign troops
Preserving Iraq's territorial integrity
Reviving the military formations of the old army
Holding general elections under U.N. supervision
Scrapping laws and regulations contributing to foreign hegemony and the partition of the country
Demolition of armed militias particularly in southern Iraq
