He is a risk taker - like his neocon friends in the US. Earlier today he said that sometimes it's better to lose and do the right thing than to win and do the wrong thing. What is even worse is to lose and do the wrong thing. Ian - the bungling Met chief - and Tony Blair thought that they could 'get away with it' - 90 was the number they thought they could sell. Bad mistake. Like Bush in the US Blair's 'capital' is fast running out.

A total of 49 Labour MPs rebelled against the Government in the vote on the 90-day detention proposal, according to official division lists.

The rebels included 11 former ministers: Clare Short, Nick Raynsford, Michael Meacher, Frank Dobson, Mark Fisher, Doug Henderson, Kate Hoey, Glenda Jackson, Peter Kilfoyle, Tony Lloyd and Chris Mullin.
