Israel jails 200 without trial

sundaytimes.za: Around 200 Palestinians who have been arrested in the West Bank by Israel over the last week have been sentenced without trial for up to six months, the army and the Palestinian prisoners' association said.

The administrative detention orders, which can be renewed when they expire, range from one to six months, an army spokesman said.

The Bethlehem-based prisoners' club said it was protesting against the sentences, which come after nearly 500 arrests since last weekend.

The detention orders give the army the right to jail people without going before a court of law. Link
