Turkey demands 'coalition' attack on PKK
Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul said the forces that conduct operations in the city of Tel Afer on the ground against the armed insurgents' presence in the city, should conduct operations in other locations as well, where other terrorists are located.
Gul reminded the US of Turkey's expectation of an operation to target the terror organization the Kurdistan Workers' Party's (PKK) presence in Northern Iraq.
Meeting in New York with ambassadors appointed to the US, the Turkish foreign minister made an announcement to the press following the meeting.
He expressed Turkey's expectation that after the establishment of peace in a way that ensures Iraq's political and territorial integrity, the foreigners in the country would leave Iraq.
"The fight against the PKK is not just the responsibility of Iraq's own security forces but of the coalition forces as well. This is quite clear. If an operation can be held in Tel Afer on the ground against the presence of the armed insurgence there, operations should be held in places where other terrorist are located as well. This is our expectation."
Gul also noted that Turkey had dispatched five trucks of aid to Tel Afer.
"We warned many times that Turkmen and other civilians not be harmed. I hope they look out for them." Read more
